INSTRUMENT PANEL
c. Removal—Right Hand Ash Tray
1. Remove upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Note la.
2. Remove one screw under lower edge of right
lower end extension and remove extension. On
air conditioned cars, disconnect air duct from ex-
tension.
3. Disconnect wire connector for cigar lighter.
4. Remove rubber sleeve from ash tray stop and
remove stop at right rear of ash tray assembly.
5. Remove two screws holding assembly to
hinge and remove assembly.
d. Installation-Right Hand Ash Tray
1. Position ash tray assembly in instrument
panel and install two screws holding assembly to
hinge.
2. Install ash tray stop and rubber sleeve at the
right rear of ash tray assembly,
3. Connect wire connector for cigar lighter.
4. Install instrument panel extension with one
screw. On air conditioned cars, connect air duct
to extension.
5. Install upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Note lb.
19. Front Cigar Lighter
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
To remove left hand cigar lighter, first remove
steering column lower cover as described in
Note 2a.
1. To remove either right or left hand cigar
lighter, disconnecting negative battery cable at
battery.
2. Remove ash receptacle from ash tray as-
sembly to gain access to cigar lighter retainer
sleeve.
3. Hold retainer sleeve and loosen cigar lighter
unit by inserting index finger in lighter socket and
rotating counterclockwise.
4. Unscrew retainer sleeve from lighter unit.
5. Unscrew lighter feed wire from stud on
lighter unit and remove lighter unit and retainer
sleeve.
b. Installation
1. Slip retainer sleeve over feed wire and screw
feed wire onto stud on lighter unit.
2. Install lighter unit in ash tray assembly and
install retainer sleeve.
3. Install ash receptacle in assembly.
4. On left hand lighter, install steering column
lower cover as described in Note 2b.
5. Connect negative battery cable at battery.
