INSTRUMENT PANEL
5. Install two light bulb sockets, and wire
connectors.
NOTE: Connect air conditioner control as-
sembly if so equipped.
6. Install three cluster bulb sockets.
7. Connect trip odometer reset cable at bracket
on lower flange of instrument panel.
8. Connect speedometer cable at speedometer
head.
9. Connect clock feed w i r e and light bulb
socket.
. 10. Connect one 6-way wire connector and one
single connector to headlamp switch.
11. Connect radio dial bulb socket at top of
radio receiver unit.
12. Install and tighten screw retaining radio to
rear support bracket, working through glove box.
13. Position glove box assembly in instrument
panel and loosely install seven Phillips head
screws.
14. Align glove box front panel in opening and
tighten screws.
15. Connect foot control unit at bottom of radio
if so equipped.
16. Connect antenna lead-in cable and 4-way
electrical connector at rear of radio.
17. Using Radio Control Knob Nut Wrench,
J-6968, install retaining nuts on both radio control
shafts, Fig. 15-2.
18. Install radio control rings, springs, and
knobs on to control shafts and secure with Allen
head screw.
19. Install steering column lower cover as
described in Note 2b.
20. Install upper instrument panel cover as
described in Note lb.
4. Instrument Cluster
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Remove upper instrument panel cover as
described in Note la.
2. Remove steering column lower cover as
described in Note 2a.
3. Remove front radio speaker as described
in Note 7a.
4. Disconnect speedometer c a b l e at speed-
ometer head.
5. Disconnect trip odometer reset cable from
bracket on lower flange of instrument panel.
6. Disconnect ignition switch wire and remove
ignition switch light bulb socket.
7. Remove four instrument cluster mounting
screws.
8. Remove four cluster bulb sockets.
9. Remove wire terminal and bulb retainer
assembly and trunk lid tell-tale bulb socket if so
equipped, Fig. 15-3.
CAUTION: Tape sharp edges of instrument
panel bezel center mounting block and the lower
portion of the cluster lens to avoid damage to
cluster assembly during removal.
10. Remove instrument panel cluster assembly.
11. Pull tape from the cluster lens and remove
eight clips securing lens to cluster. Remove lens.
b. Installation
1. Install instrument panel cluster lens and
secure with eight clips.
CAUTION: Tape lower portion of the cluster
face lens to avoid damage during installation.
2. Position cluster in instrument panel and
remove tape from cluster lens and bezel center
mounting block.
3. Install four cluster to instrument panel re-
taining screws.
4. Install four cluster bulb sockets. Refer to
Fig. 15-3 for location of bulb sockets.
5. Install wire terminal and bulb retainer as-
sembly, Fig. 15-3.
NOTE: Tang at upper center of wire ter-
minal must have metal to metal contact to
ground plastic wire terminal.
6. Install trunk lid tell-tale bulb socket if so
equipped.
7. Connect trip odometer reset cable at bracket
on lower flange of instrument panel.
8. Connect speedometer cable at speedometer
head.
9. Connect ignition switch wire and install igni-
tion switch light bulb socket.
