4. Remove 6 screws holding core plate to heat-
er case and remove core assembly, pulling cable
out with assembly.
5. Remove 4 screws and remove plate from
core assembly.
6. Remove thermostatic coil from face of heat-
er core.
7. Remove 2 nuts and remove water control
valve with thermostatic coil.
8. If water control valve is to be replaced,
manually operate valve to open position, discon-
nect bowden cable from valve.
b. Installation
1. If new water control valve is to be installed,
manually operate valve to open position and con-
nect bowden cable to new valve.
2. Install water control valve to heater core
with 2 nuts. Be sure to include rubber seal that
seals in recess in core.
3. Attach thermostatic coil to face of heater
core.
4. Apply sealer around outside edge of heater
core on side with water pipes.
5. Install core mounting plate with 4 screws,
being careful not to disturb sealer.
6. Install core assembly in heater case with 6
screws.
7. Replace
any grommets removed during
disassembly.
8. Install large air seal gasket.
9. Install core frame on heater case with 8
screws. Make sure that grommet around bowden
cable is in place.
10. Install heater assembly as described in
Note 7b or 8b.
11. Heater Assembly—Rear Quarter
Panel Removal and Installation
(75 Series Cars Only)
a. Removal
1. Drain cooling system and disconnect heater
hoses 'at rear unit from underneath car.
2. Remove back seat cushion.
3. Push back on seat back top molding and re-
move molding.
4. Remove four molding retaining clips from
parcel shelf.
5. Pull down on center arm rest and remove
two fabric retaining screws and two cap screws
securing seat back to body braces.
6. Straighten four retaining clips along bottom
of seat back.
7. Pull out on bottom of seat back and lift seat
back up and off top retaining brackets, and remove
seat back.
8. Remove rear quarter window molding and
trim pad assembly.
9. Remove arm rest attaching screws and re-
move arm rest assembly from rear quarter panel.
10. Disconnect cigar lighter or radio control
wires and air conditioner switch connector where
present, and position arm rest out of the way.
11. Disconnect bowden cable from water con-
trol valve.
12. Remove two heater assembly retaining
screws and remove heater assembly from rear
quarter panel.
b. Installation
1. Position heater assembly in rear quarter
panel and secure in place with two retaining
screws.
2. Connect bowden cable at water control valve.
3. Where present, connect Air Conditioner
switch and cigar lighter or radio control wires
and position arm rest in rear quarter panel.
4. Check operation of power operated rear door
windows, and where present, check operation of
cigar lighter, heater and Air Conditioner controls
and radio controls.
5. Install arm rest attaching screws.
6. Install rear quarter window molding and trim
pad assembly.
7. Position seat back to engage top in retaining
brackets and bend four retaining clips over hooks
along bottom of seat back.
8. Secure seat back to body braces "with two
cap screws in area of center arm rest, and re-
place arm rest fabric. Secure fabric with two
screws.
9. Install four molding retaining clips on top
edge of parcel shelf.
