ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
cornering light will light continuously.
When a
left turn is to be made, the lever is moved down-
ward and the left lamps operate in like manner.
After the turn is completed, the return of the
steering wheel to the straight ahead position auto-
matically turns off the signal lights, and cornering
light when lit.
The automatic turn-off is achieved by means of
a cam that is pinned to the steering wheel hub,
and a ratchet that is integral with the switch as-
sembly. When the steering wheel is turned in the
direction for which the control is set, the cam
passes the ratchet without engaging, but when
the wheel is turned in the opposite direction, the
cam engages the ratchet and turns off the signal
and cornering light.
When the signal system is operating properly,
the lights flash about 70 to 90 times per minute
at 12.8 volts. If either a front or rear signal bulb
burns out, the reduced current in the circuit will
increase the flashing speed of the remaining bulb.
The signal flasher is a sealed unit and is non-
adjustable.
If inoperative it must be replaced.
The flasher makes an audible signal when the
circuit is energized.
This is purposely created
as an additional warning t h a t
the signal i s
operating.
