Notes on the safe transportation of children
& WARNING Risk of accident and injury
due to children left unattended in the
vehicle
If you leave children unattended in the vehi‐
cle, they may be able to set the vehicle in
motion, for example by:
Releasing the parking brake.
R
Shifting the automatic transmission out of
R
park position j.
Starting the engine.
R
In addition, they may operate vehicle equip‐
ment and become trapped.
Never leave children unattended in the
#
vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take
#
the SmartKey with you and lock the
vehicle.
& WARNING Risk of fatal injury due to
exposure to extreme heat or cold in the
vehicle
If people – particularly children – are exposed
to extreme temperatures over an extended
period of time, there is a risk of serious or
even fatal injury.
Never leave anyone – particularly chil‐
#
dren – unattended in the vehicle.
Never leave animals in the vehicle unat‐
#
tended.
& WARNING Risk of burns when the child
seat is exposed to direct sunlight
If the child restraint system is exposed to
direct sunlight or heat, parts could heat up.
Children could suffer burns from these parts,
particularly on metallic parts of the child
restraint system.
Always make sure that the child
#
restraint system is not exposed to direct
sunlight.
Protect it with a blanket, for example.
#
If the child restraint system has been
#
exposed to direct sunlight, allow it to
cool before securing a child into it.
Never leave children unattended in the
#
vehicle.
The use of seat belts and child restraint systems
is required by law:
in all 50 states
R
in the U.S. territories
R
in the District of Columbia
R
in all Canadian provinces
R
All child restraint systems must meet the follow‐
ing standards:
U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

213 and 225
Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 213
R
and 210.2
You can obtain further information on the correct
child restraint system at an authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center.
To improve protection for children younger than
12 years or under 5 ft (1.50 m) in height,
Mercedes-Benzrecommends you observe the fol‐
lowing information:
Only secure children using a child restraint
R
system which is appropriate to the height,
age and weight of the child and recommen‐
ded and suitable for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Be sure to observe the instructions for cor‐
rect use of the child restraint system.
Always install a child restraint system on a
R
rear seat if possible.
Only use the following securing systems for
R
child restraint systems:
the seat belt system
-
the LATCH-type (ISOFIX) mounting brack‐
-
ets
the Top Tether anchorages
-
Follow the manufacturer's installation instruc‐
R
tions for the child restraint system.
Observe the warning labels in the vehicle
R
interior and on the child restraint system.
& WARNING Risk of injury or death caused
by incorrect installation of the child
restraint system
If the child restraint system is incorrectly
installed on a suitable seating position, it can‐
not perform its intended protective function.
