Possible causes/consequences and
Let the engine run for a few minutes or drive an extended dis‐

& WARNING Danger of burns when opening the hood
If you open the hood when the engine has overheated or during
a fire in the engine compartment, you could come into contact
with hot gases or other escaping operating fluids.
Before opening the hood, allow the engine to cool down.

In the event of a fire in the engine compartment, keep the
#
hood closed and call the fire service.
& WARNING Risk of scalding from hot coolant
The engine cooling system is pressurized, particularly when the
engine is warm. If you open the cap, you could be scalded by hot
coolant spraying out.
Let the engine cool down before opening the cap.

When opening the cap, wear protective gloves and safety
#
glasses.
Open the cap slowly to release pressure.
#
Wait until the engine has cooled down.
#
Ensure that the air supply to the engine radiator is not obstruc‐
#
ted.
