Starting the engine
Starting the vehicle with the start/stop but‐
ton
& WARNING Risk of accident and injury
due to children left unattended in the
vehicle
If children are left unattended in the vehicle,
they could:
open doors, thereby endangering other
R
persons or road users.
get out of the vehicle and be hit by
R
oncoming traffic.
operate vehicle equipment and become
R
trapped, for example.
In addition, children could also set the vehicle
in motion, for example, by:
releasing the parking brake.
R
shifting the automatic transmission out of
R
park position j.
starting the engine
R
Never leave children and animals unat‐
#
tended in the vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take
#
the SmartKey with you and lock the
vehicle.
Keep the SmartKey out of the reach of
#
children.
Requirements:
The key is in detection range of the antenna
R
(
page 41) and the key battery is not dis‐
charged.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
#
shift the transmission to position j or i.
Depress the brake pedal and press button
#
once.
If the vehicle does not start: switch off unnec‐
#
essary consumers and press button
If the vehicle still does not start and the dis‐
#
play message
Place the Key in the Marked
Space See Operator's Manual
multifunction display: start the vehicle in
emergency operation mode.
