6.3.5

Adjusting Image Distinction Level: Text/Photo

The machine provides two methods for reproducing images.
One is the dither (error diffusion) method which uses small dots (600 dots per inch) to reproduce an image.
This method is suitable for reproducing text originals sharply.
The other is the screen method, which also provides two methods. One is the Line Screen which uses many
halftone lines to reproduce an image, and the other is the Dot Screen which uses halftone dots as used for
printed images. The screen methods provide fine quality in reproducing the gradation of images. However,
text originals may not be reproduced clearly, being processed in the same way as photo originals.
Using the Text/Photo distinction function, the machine detects and determines the photo portion and text
area of the scanned original, which allows you to obtain the optimum print result for each original.
This section describes how to adjust the ratio in detecting the text/photo area.
