6.4 Safety calls

Making a safety call
Safety calls should be used when there is an
important n avigational w arning or m eteorological
forecast/broadcast. Safety alerts can also be used for
communications during search and rescue operations.
From the All s hips call
menu: Menu > DSC Calls > All
ships call .
1. Select
Safety.
2. Select t he channel f or s ubsequent c ommunication.
The call i s transmitted. Once the call h as been
successfully transmitted ' Sent' i s displayed onscreen
and the channel i s changed to the specified channel.
3. Press the
OK button.
4. Press and hold the
PTT button and speak the
following message:
SECURITE, S ECURITE, S ECURITE
ALL S TATIONS, ALL STATIONS, ALL STATIONS
This is <MMSI o f y our v essel, n ame of y our v essel
repeated 3 times, c all s ign of y our v essel>
Position <Y our v essel's position>
Reason for call
<state the reason for t he safety call>

Receiving a safety call
When a safety call i s received:
1. Select
Show info from the options to review relevant
call d etails.
2. Select
Accept at a ny time to accept t he call.
If a uto channel c hange is turned on then the channel
will a utomatically change after 1 0 seconds.
The radio is re-tuned to the specified channel.

6.5 Individual ( routine) c alls

Individual c alls can be made to contacts saved in your
phonebook or t o any station by manually entering an
MMSI n umber.
Note: When calling a coast s tation there is no need
to select a channel f or c ommunication.
If a call c annot b e accepted then a reason code is
displayed.

Making a routine DSC call
From the Individual C all menu: Menu > DSC Calls >
Individual C all .
1. Select
Phonebook to mak e a routine call t o a contact
saved in your P honebook, o r
2. Select
Recent C alls to make a routine call t o a
contact t hat y ou have called recently, or
3. Select
Enter M MSI to manually enter t he MMSI
number o f t he station you want t o contact.
4. Select a contact o r e nter a n MMSI m anually and
press the OK button.
5. Select t he Channel y ou want t o transmit t he call o n.
If t he MMSI i s a CSR then the radio will a utomatically
tune to the correct C hannel. The radio will w ait f or
an acknowledgement t o be received.
6. If a n acknowledgement i s received, p ress the
button.
7. Press and hold the
PTT button and speak your
message.
8. Release the
PTT button when you have completed
your m essage .

Receiving an individual ( routine) c all

With an incoming individual c all d isplayed:
1. Select
Show info from the options to review relevant
call d etails.
2. Select
Reply on Ch ##
at a ny time to accept t he call.
If a uto channel c hange is turned on then the channel
will a utomatically change after 1 0 seconds.
The radio is re-tuned to the specified channel.
3. T
o reject t he call, s elect
Reject.
4. If y ou rejected the call, select a reason for t he
rejection from the list.
Confirmation of t he acceptance or r ejection of t he call i s
displayed. If y ou have accepted the call t hen the radio
will r e-tune to the requested channel.
