2.3 Product o verview

The R ay90 and Ray91 a re 12 V dc, C lass D Digital
Selective Calling (DSC) V HF radios. DSC enables you
to make and receive calls to a specific radio, a nd to
transmit a nd receive position information to and from
a selected radio. DSC also allows transmission of a
distress alert, t o all r adios within range, a t t he touch of a
button. Once a DSC request i s sent a nd acknowledged
voice communication is carried out o n the channel
chosen by the caller. The radio can transmit a nd receive
on all a vailable US, C anadian, I nternational a nd Private
marine VHF channels.
The Ray90 and Ray91 i nclude a built-in GNSS (GPS)
receiver.
The Ray91 a lso includes a built-in AIS receiver.
Y our radio includes a base station with 2 x wired
handset c onnections.
With an optional l oud hailer c onnected the radio can
also be used as a fog horn or l oud public address (PA)
system.

USA licensing requirements
FCC station license requirement
An FCC Ship Radio Station License and Call S ign are
not r equired for m ost r ecreational v essels travelling in
US waters. However, you must o btain a license if y our
vessel t ravels to foreign ports.
Ships that u se MF/HF single side-band radio, s atellite
communications, o r t elegraphy must b e licensed by the
FCC. Y ou can obtain a Station License by filing FCC
Form 605.
Canada licensing requirements
Industry Canada license requirement
Y ou do not n eed a license to operate this product w ithin
the sovereign waters of C anada or t he United States of
America (USA). Y ou will n eed a license to operate this
radio outside of C anada or t he USA. T o obtain Industry
