Guide lines for Safe and Ef fi cient Use

Gen eral
Since its in tro duc tion in the mid 1980s the mo bile phone is
one of the most ex cit ing and in no va tive prod ucts ever de vel -
oped. Your phone can help you to stay in touch with your of -
fice, your home, emer gency serv ices and oth ers.
Your mo bile phone is a ra dio trans mit ter and re ceiver. When
the phone is turned on it re ceives and trans mits ra dio fre -
quency (RF) en ergy. De pend ing on the type of mo bile phone
you have pur chased, it op er ates in dif fer ent fre quency ranges
and em ploys com monly used modu la tion tech niques. The
sys tem that han dles your call when you are us ing your phone,
con trols the power level at which your phone trans mits.
Ex po sure to Ra dio Fre quency En ergy
Your wire less hand held port able tele phone is a low power ra -
dio trans mit ter and re ceiver. When it is ON, it re ceives and
also sends our ra dio fre quency (RF) sig nals.
In August, 1996, the Fed eral Com mu ni ca tions Com mis sions
(FCC) adopted RF ex po sure guide lines with safety lev els for
hand held wire less phones. Those guide lines are con sis tent
with the safety stan dards pre vi ously set by both US and in ter -
na tional stan dards bod ies:
ANSI C95.1 (1992)*
NCRP Re port 86 (1986)*
ICNIRP (1996)*

Those stan dards were based on com pre hen sive and pe ri odic
evalua tions of the rele vant sci en tific lit era ture. For ex am ple,
over 120 sci en tists, en gi neers, and phy si cians from uni ver si -
ties, gov ern ment health agen cies, and in dus try re viewed the
avail able body of re search to de velop the ANSI Stan dards
(C95.1).
The de sign of your phone com plies with the FCC guide lines
(and those stan dards).

Ef fi cient Phone Op era tion
How to use your phone for op ti mum per form ance with
mini mum power con sump tion:
Hold the phone as you would any other tele phone. While
speak ing di rectly into the mouth piece, an gle the an tenna
in a di rec tion up and over your shoul der. If the an tenna is
ex tend able/re tract able, it should be ex tended dur ing a
call.
Do not hold the an tenna when the phone is in use. Hold -
ing the an tenna af fects call qual ity, may cause the phone
to op er ate at a higher power level than needed and
shorten talk and standby times.
