Connecting Using the RS232 Cable
Us ing the RS232 ca ble pro vided is the most power ef fi cient
way to use your CF888 to gether with a com puter. To en able
use of the IrDA pro to col, using the RS232 ca ble:

Con nect the ca ble ac cord ing to the pic ture below.

Un der the tab ' O ptions' in the In fra red Moni tor found
in the Con trol Panel folder, se lect the COM port that
you will use with the se rial ca ble.
Mak ing Fax and Data Calls
Fax and Data call ing is not avail able in Ana log mode.
Soft ware-Ini ti ated Fax and Data Calls
Fax and data calls are nor mally ini ti ated from within the com -
puter soft ware. Do the fol low ing:

Con nect your com puter to the phone, us ing the IR port
or the RS232 ca ble.

Start the ap pro pri ate soft ware ap pli ca tion on your com -
puter and fol low the pro ce dure that is appropriate for
the soft ware.
Note!
Make sure that you have se lected the CF888 mo dem.

When a fax or data call is in prog ress, the phone dis play
shows the call type, Fax or Data.
Re ceiv ing Fax and Data Calls
The pro ce dure for re ceiv ing fax and data calls de pends on
your net work and sub scrip tion. If you have dif fer ent num -
bers for speech, fax and data calls, this is re ferred to as multi
num ber ing. This means that you can have up to three num bers
in your sub scrip tion. If you only have one number for all call
types, this is re ferred to as sin gle num ber ing.
Re ceiv ing Fax and Data Calls –
Multi Num ber ing
You can not re ceive fax or data calls in Ana log mode.
If your net work and sub scrip tion sup port multi number ing,
the CF888 will dis play the type of in coming call. There are
four pos si ble types apart from speech calls:

Fax calls
•
Data calls
•
Speech then fax calls
•
Fax then speech calls

The dis play shows the type of call on the mid dle row.
