Op era tors & Sub scrip tion
To be able to use your phone, you need to have a sub scrip -
tion to a net work. This is ob tained from the net work op era -
tor. The serv ices in cluded in your sub scrip tion de pend on
your choice of op era tor and/or sub scrip tion. There fore,
some of the serv ices and functions de scribed in this man ual
may not be ac ces si ble to you. If you want a com plete list of
the serv ices in cluded in your sub scrip tion, please con tact
your net work op era tor.
Dual Band/Dual Mode –
GSM 1900 & Analog 800
The Er ics son CF888 is a dual band/dual mode phone, so
you can operate your phone in two dif fer ent kinds of net -
works – the GSM 1900 (PCS) and the AMPS 800 sys tems.
The digi tal GSM sys tem op er ates at 1900 MHz, while the
ana log sys tem, AMPS, op er ates at 800 MHz.
A dual band/dual mode phone, such as your CF888, com -
bines the two stan dards and can use both fre quen cies. You
have the power of the GSM 1900 in your home net work
while be ing able to roam in the widespread ana log cov er age.
GSM 1900 is some times called GSM or PCS.
Ana log in for ma tion/in struc tions will ap pear in blue.

SIM & PIN
To gether with your sub scrip tion you will ob tain a 3- volt SIM
(Sub scriber Iden tity Mod ule) card. The SIM must be a dual
mode SIM card to op er ate as a dual mode phone. A sin -
gle mode SIM will only ac cess GSM 1900 net works.
The SIM card con tains a com puter chip that keeps track of
your phone number, the serv ices you have or dered from your
net work op era tor and your Phone Book in for ma tion, among
oth ers.
Your SIM card is sup plied with a se cu rity code or Per sonal
Iden tity Num ber (PIN), which you need in or der to gain ac -
cess to the net work. Your PIN may also be re quired when
you want to change set tings in your phone. Fur ther more,
some op era tors may have serv ices that re quire a sec ond PIN,
the PIN2. You will find your PIN (and PIN2) in the in for ma -
tion from your op era tor.
When you turn on your phone you may be prompted to en ter
your PIN if the PIN is activated. If the PIN is en tered in cor -
rectly three times in suc ces sion, the SIM card will be blocked.
If this hap pens you can un lock it by us ing your Per sonal Un -
block ing Key (PUK) code, which is also ob tained from your
op era tor. See chap ter " Se cu rity" .
You should be care ful with your PIN, since it is your pro tec -
tion against un au thor ized use of your phone and sub scrip -
tion.
