3.7 Verifying BGP IPVPN Routes for Green VRFs

IPVPN Routes between the VRFs are advertised by BGP as VPNv4 routes.
A VPNv4 route is simply an VRF IPv4 route which has been pre-pended with the RD of the advertising
VRF.
Hence one of the two purposes of the RD defined in sections 2.2.8.2 & 2.2.9.2 is to render the IPv4
routes from different VRFs (which might overlap and be the same) unique to BGP.
These VPNv4 Routes, from all VRFs, are then advertised by a single instance of BGP which is operating
in the GRT. When BGP advertises these VPNv4 Routes it will also associate them with a BGP Extended
Community which will contain all of the Export RTs defined on the advertising VRF.
At the receiving end, when these VPNv4 Routes are learnt, the RT values contained in the Extended
Community of the BGP Update, are matched against the Import RTs defined for the local VRFs. If there is
a match, then the VPNv4 Routes will be accepted into dedicated BGP table space for the VRF.
The first step is therefore to check what are the Import RTs defined for the VRF and then to look at the
BGP learnt VPNv4 Routes.
Step 1 – Verify the import RTs defined on the Green VRF
CLI:
