2.1 Addressing & Numbering conventions
For the sake of simplicity this TCG will use the following conventions for attributing Vlan-ids, IP
addresses, CLIP addresses, RD & RTs.

2.1.1 Vlan-id Convention

Valid range 1-4095; Vlan-id 4 digit = rrxx where:
 rr = VRF-id
 xx = Sequence of Vlans 00-99
Hence the GRT will use Vlans 1-99, VRF1 Vlans 100-199, VRF2 Vlans 200-299 etc.
The GRT Vlans 2-99 will in fact be used for the L2 VLANs.
Vlan-ids 3990-4000 will be reserved as follows:
 3991-3992
 3998-3999
 4000

2.1.2 IP addressing Convention

In this TCG the 10.0.0.0/8 address space will be used to allocate IP subnets across all VRFs and the
GRT.
Vlan IP addresses: 10.r.v.s/24; where:
 r = VRF-id (0 for the GRT)
 v = Lower 2 digits (xx) of Vlan-id
 s = Switch number on GRT IP interfaces; .1 on VRF interfaces
The IST IP addresses will however use 10.0.255.0/30 since only two IP addresses are expected in that
subnet.

2.1.3 Circuitless IP Convention

CLIP#1 addresses will also use address space inside 10.0.0.0/8 like any other VLAN IP subnet.
CLIP#2 and CLIP#3 will be used as Service IPs (for the IPinIP encapsulation of IPVPN-Lite). These CLIP
addresses could also use the same 10.0.0.0/8 address space. Yet since reachability of these interfaces is
only required within the backbone and no further, they can be created as a separate private IP subnets
without having to allocate subnets from the primary address space in use. These addresses do not have
to be advertised to the Internet firewall (or NATed by it). In this TCG CLIP#2 and CLIP#3 will use private
address space 172.16.0.0/16.
CLIP#1 addresses: 10.0.0.s/32; where:
 s = Switch number
CLIP#2 addresses: 172.16.s.254/24; where:
 s = Switch number
CLIP#3 Cluster address: 172.16.0.254/24
