A virtualization technique in which the virtualization engine is outside the
data path and performs a metadata-style service. The metadata server
contains all the mapping and locking tables while the storage devices
contain only data. See also symmetric virtualization
required to read data from or write data to lower-speed memory or a
device. Read cache holds data in anticipation that it will be requested by a
client. Write cache holds data written by a client until it can be safely stored
on more permanent storage media such as disk or tape.
In SAN Volume Controller, a pair of nodes that provides a single
configuration and service interface.
See Common Information Model.
A set of standards developed by the Distributed Management Task Force
(DMTF). CIM provides a conceptual framework for storage management
and an open approach to the design and implementation of storage
systems, applications, databases, networks, and devices.
Pertaining to a valid configuration that has suffered a failure but continues
to be supported and legal. Typically, a repair action can be performed on a
degraded configuration to restore it to a valid configuration.
The set of maintenance procedures that can be run for a cluster. These
procedures are documented in the service guide.
A zone defined in the storage area network (SAN) fabric in which the SAN
Volume Controller can detect and address the logical units that the disk
controllers present.
A value that identifies an error condition.
In SAN Volume Controller, the status of a managed disk that the cluster has
removed from use after repeated access errors.
