Removing and Installing a Pentium III Processor

This subsection provides the procedures for removing and installing a
Pentium III processor in your system. The system board includes two
Pentium III ZIF sockets. The primary processor socket is shown in Figure 4-6,
A; the secondary processor socket is shown in Figure 4-6, B.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage components;
place them on an antistatic surface. Modify the system board
using an antistatic wrist strap attached to chassis ground.

Removing a Processor
If the system has been running, any processor and heat sink
already installed on the board will be hot. To avoid the
possibility of a burn, let the components cool for 10 minutes
before continuing with the procedures described here
1. Remove the system front bezel and top cover as described earlier in this
chapter.
2. Ensure the server is powered down and the ac cable is disconnected.
3. Ensure the LED located on the PCI I/O board is OFF.
4. Tag and disconnect any cables attached to option boards installed in the
system.
5. Grasp each side of the frame of the PCI I/O board and pull upwards to
disconnect and remove it from the system board. See figure 4-7.
