Introduction

Planned maintenance

Bravo- Brava 1581 16v

Position the vehicle on a lift, then:

- disconnect the negative battery lead;

- remove the right front wheel;

- remove the right wheel arch liner.

To gain access to the timing belt it is nec-

essary to remove the alternator drive belt

from the damper flywheel. In order to do

so, act on the tensioner fixing bolt shown

in the diagram.

After having removed the air intake pipe

near the upper part of the timing belt

shield, remove the spark plugs and posi-

tion the dial gauge by cylinder no. 1 using

crankshaft until T.D.C. is found.

Check that the reference

damper flywheel is aligned w i t h the refer-

ence (2) on the timing belt lower shield.

Also check that the reference on the fly-

wheel coincides w i t h the reference on the

bell housing, as shown in the inset.

Remove the lower protective casing for

the flywheel from the bell housing, then

place flywheel lock 1860771000 in posi-

tion and remove the damper flywheel.

Then undo the upper and lower bolts fix-

ing the timing belt shield and remove it.
