Safety and ventilation valve

This valve is located in the fuel filler cap and,
depending on the pressure in the tank, carries
out the f o l l o w i n g functions:
- When the pressure inside the fuel tank ex-
ceeds 0.13 - 0.18 bar, it allows the excess
vapours t o be discharged outwards (safety
function).
- If, conversely, there is a vacuum of 0.020 -
0.030 bar in the tank, it allows the intake of
air (ventilation function).

Charcoal filter

The charcoal filter is located in the right
wheel arch; to gain access to it, remove the
rear part of the right front wheel arch liner.
It consists of granules of charcoal (4) w h i c h
trap the petrol vapours entering through the
intake ( 5 ) .
The scavenging air w h i c h enters through the
intake ( 1 ) , through the paper filter
comes into contact w i t h the granules and d i -
rects them towards the outlet (2) and from
there towards the cut-out valve.
The air, having entered through the intake
(5), can also be recalled by the vacuum in the
tank to ventilate the actual tank. The parti-
tion (6) ensures that the air drawn in comes
into contact w i t h all the granules of charcoal
assisting the release of petrol vapours t o -
wards the inlet manifold.
There are also t w o springs (7) w h i c h allow
the mass of granules to expand w h e n the
pressure increases.
