Common hardware problems

This section lists some common problems and their solutions. If you are unable to
resolve the problem, contact an authorized Toshiba Magnia service provider or your
hardware vendor.

The front panel power indicator light is not on

Is the server connected to an appropriately grounded AC power outlet?
For models with EPS-R power supply: Is the AC power switch on the EPS-R unit
set to On?
Are the indicators on the EPS-R units? Is the server operating normally? If so, the
front panel power indicator is faulty.

The screen is blank

Are the AC switch and power button on?
Is the keyboard connected properly?
Is the keyboard functioning properly? If the keyboard is locked, restart the system.
Are the monitor's signal and power cables connected properly?
Is the monitor on?
Are the monitor's brightness and contrast levels set properly?
Are the monitor's switches set properly?
Is the system in secure mode?
When Windows NT or Windows 2000 are used, is the screen resolution and
synchronization frequency supported by the monitor? Start the server in VGA
mode to check for normal operation.
For rack mounted servers: Is the KVM switchbox set to select the server?

Characters are distorted or do not display properly

Is the monitor adjusted to appropriate brightness and contrast levels? Refer to its
operating manual.
Are the monitor's signal and power cables connected properly?
