There is only one stapling position.
There are 3,000 staples in a cartridge.
The stapler unit contains a motor, a home position sensor, and a staple end
sensor. These are not removed as isolated parts. Because of this, they are not
discussed in the manual in detail.
Exit unit up/down timing:
Each set is fed the same as an even-numbered set in shift-sorting mode. Because
of this, each set is moved across to the left (as seen from the copy exit side of the
machine).
After each set, the exit unit comes down to staple the set and feed it out.
The exit unit switch activation position is part of the distance between the
up and down positions. As a result, after stapling, the exit unit moves down
a small distance more.

To staple a set of copies:
The exit unit moves down
until the exit unit switch
turns on.
The main motor stops
The stapler unit starts
After stapling:
The exit unit completes
its downward movement
after stapling, to feed out
the set.
