One of these three modes is selected at the printer driver.
Straight feed-out
Each page is fed out immediately after it comes from the copier.
Shift sorting
Each page in odd-numbered sets is fed the same as for straight feed-out mode.
But, pages in even-numbered sets are collected in the jogger tray, and moved to
one side before they are fed out.
This lets the user separate the sets easily.
Stapling
Each set is fed the same as even-numbered sets in shift sorting mode.
But, the set is stapled in the jogger tray before it is fed to the output tray.
All sets are moved to one side.
Straight feed-out

Paper goes directly to the output tray without sorting or stapling
Shift sorting

Even-numbered sets are moved slightly to one side before they
are fed to the output tray.

Pages in even-numbered sets are collected in the jogger tray, and moved to
one side before they are fed out.

Odd-numbered sets are fed immediately out to the output tray.
They are not moved to the side.
Stapling
•
Each set is stapled in the jogger tray before it is fed to the
output tray.
