2 Hardware Installation

2.1 Before You Start

There are some simple tools and components that are user provided:
a small size flat-blade screwdriver for unlocking and locking hard disk drive
trays
At least two 3.5 inch hard drives (up to 3TB per drive is supported).
NOTE
Users MUST install at least install two hard drives into bays 1 and 2 respectively to
setup the EonNAS system.

2.1.1 Hot-swappable components

The hard drives in drive trays are hot swappable components. Please refer to the
Software Manual for RAID configuration details and the maintenance section of this
manual on how to replace hard drives.
RAID-5 configuration allows 1 hard drive to fail at any given time without data lost;
RAID-6 configuration allows 2 hard drives to fail at the same time at any given time
without data lost. Please refer to the Software Manual for RAID configuration details
and the maintenance section of this manual on how to replace hard drives.
WARNING
For internal airflow and safety reasons, please only remove one hard drive tray
at a time and never leave two or more hard drive bay empty without drive tray!

2.1.2 Airflow concerns

Allow 20cm of ventilation clearance around the enclosure. Make sure cables are also
placed well clear of the ventilation area behind the enclosure and away from foot
traffic.
