CYLINDER HEADIVALVES
Remove the cam sprockets
off
the camshaft flanges.
Remove the sprockets from the cam chain.
Attach a piece of wire to the cam chain to prevent
it
from
falling into the crankcase.
Remove the two bolts and cam chain guide.
Inspect the cam chain slipper surface of the cam chain
guide for wear or damage and replace if necessary.
Remove the camshaft holder bolts, camshaft holders,
dowel pins and camshafts.
NOTE:
Do not forcibly remove the dowel pins from the camshaft
holders.
CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL
Drain the coolant (page 6-5).
Remove the radiator (page 6-8).
Remove the following:
-camshaft
(page 10-5)
-exhaust
system (page
2-5)
-carburetor
assembly (page 5-4)
Remove the valve lifters and shims.
NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the valve lifter bore.
Shim may stick to the inside
of
the valve lifter. Do not
allow the shims to fall into the crankcase.

Mark a l l valve lifters and shims t o ensure correct
reassembly in their original locations.

The valve lifter can be easily removed with a valve
lapping tool or magnet.
-
The shims can be easily removed with a tweezers or
magnet.
