VALVE TRAIN COMPONENT
REMOVAL
R em ove or D isconnect (Figure 9)
Tools Required:
J 3049, Hydraulic Lifter Remover (Plier Type)
or
J 9290-1, H ydraulic Lifter Rem over (Slide
Hammer Type)
1. Nuts
2. Reinforcements
3. Rocker Arm Cover
4. Gasket
5. Studs

1. Nuts (6), balls (8), rocker arms (7), and pushrods (9).
2. Lifters (10).

TORSIONAL DAMPER REMOVAL

The torsional dam per has three timing notches on the
B-09553
inertia ring. The number one cylinder timing reference
mark will be identified by a dab of white paint. If a new
damper assembly is installed, mark the new assembly in

valve train organizer can be made from a
piece of wood.
• Remove the lifters one at a time and place
them in an organizer rack. The lifters must be
installed into the same bore from which they
were removed.
• A stuck lifter can be removed using J 3049
(figure 10) or J 9290-01 (figure 11).

CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL

• Use care when handling the cylinder heads to
prevent damage to rocker arm studs or gasket
sealing surface.
