MINOR REPAIR TO THE COMPRESSOR
O perations to the clutch plate and hub, pulley and b e a r­
ing, and coil and housing are covered as " M in o r" b e ­
cause they m ay be perform ed w ithout purging the system.
Servicing the shaft seal and pressure relief valve are
covered in " M ajor R epair P ro ce d u res" b ecau se the sys­
tem must be purged of Refrigerant-12.
Illustrations used in describing th ese operations show
the com pressor rem oved from the vehicle to illustrate the
various operations.
W hen servicing the compressor, rem ove the co m p o ­
nents that prelim inary diagnosis indicates need servicing.
R efer to figure 1 for part n am e and location.
Keep the work area, tools and parts clean. U se Piston
Tray J 9 4 0 2 (refer to " S pecial Tools" ) for parts removed
and for replacem en t parts.
W hen a com pressor is rem oved from the vehicle for
servicing, drain and m easure the am ou n t of oil rem aining
in the compressor. A fter servicing, add new 5 2 5 viscosity
refrigerant oil to the compressor.

• Hold the clutch plate and hub assem b ly (2)
with J 2 5 0 3 0 (figure 2).
• T h read J 9401-A into the clutch plate and hub
(2) (figure 3).

• Hold the body of
tighten the ce n te r screw into th e re m o ve r body.
• Retain the shaft key (36) if usable.
Inspect

All parts and replace as necessary.
