2. After the system health LED turns off, press the power button to turn on the server. The server is
turned on and then turned off automatically. Then, the recovery process starts. The recovery process
lasts about 20 minutes. After the recovery process is completed, the server starts automatically.
3. Check and configure the BIOS settings for your specific needs. See "Using the Setup Utility
program" on page 47.
• Using the BIOS recovery jumper
1. Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to
the server.
2. Prepare your server. See "Removing or extending the server from the rack cabinet" on page 61.
3. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 61.
4. Locate the BIOS recovery jumper on the system board. See "System board jumpers" on page 41.
Then, remove any parts and disconnect any cables that might impede your access to the jumper.
Note: Do not remove the memory modules or microprocessors.
5. Remove the jumper cap from the jumper cap storage. See "System board jumpers" on page 41.
6. Note the orientation of the jumper cap and then install the jumper cap on the BIOS recovery jumper.
7. Connect the server to an ac power source. The server turns on and then turns off automatically.
8. Move the jumper cap back to the jumper cap storage. See "System board jumpers" on page 41.
9. Wait for several minutes. When the BIOS recovery process is completed, the server turns on
automatically.
10. Ensure that the Setup Utility program starts normally. See "Starting the Setup Utility program" on
page 47. Then, disconnect the server from the ac power source.
11. Reinstall any parts and reconnect any cables. Then, reinstall the server cover. See "Completing
the parts replacement" on page 165.
12. Connect the server to an ac power source and turn on the server. Check and configure the BIOS
settings for your specific needs. See "Using the Setup Utility program" on page 47.
Note: If you cannot recover the BIOS after using the instructions in this topic, the BIOS read-only memory
(ROM) might be damaged. You must replace the system board. Contact the Lenovo Customer Support
Center.

storage functions and reliability through redundancy. This is achieved by combining multiple hard disk drives
into a logical unit, where data is distributed across the drives in one of several ways called RAID levels.
