6. Locate the connector for the RAID 500 key on the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 500 PCIe Adapter. Then,
insert the RAID 500 key into the connector. Ensure that the RAID 500 key is securely seated on the
RAID adapter.
Note: If necessary, remove the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 500 PCIe Adapter first for easier operation.
Then, reinstall the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 500 PCIe Adapter. See "Installing or removing a PCI
Express card: Ethernet card, RAID card, and other supported types of PCI Express cards" on page 82.

7. Reinstall any parts or reconnect any cables that you have removed.

• To work with another piece of hardware, go to the appropriate section.
• To complete the installation, go to "Completing the parts replacement" on page 165. Then, the hardware
RAID 5 and RAID 50 levels are available for your server if your server has the required number of storage
drives installed. For information about how to configure the hardware RAID, refer to the MegaRAID SAS
Software User Guide on the documentation DVD that comes with your server.
Removing the RAID 500 key
Attention: Do not open your server or attempt any repair before reading and understanding "Safety information"
on page iii and "Guidelines" on page 59.
Before you begin, print all the related instructions or ensure that you can view the PDF version on another
computer for reference.
Notes:
• If you remove the RAID 500 key from the Lenovo ThinkServer RAID 500 PCIe Adapter, the hardware RAID
5 and RAID 50 levels will be disabled.
• Use any documentation that comes with the RAID 500 key and follow those instructions in addition to
the instructions in this topic.
To remove the RAID 500 key from the RAID card, do the following:
Attention: Removing the upgrade key might impact your RAID configurations. Back up your data before
you begin to avoid any data loss due to a RAID configuration change.
