DTC P0116
Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor range/performance problem
• The PCM monitors the input signal from the engine coolant temperature sensor. If the difference between
the maximum and the minimum value of the ECT is less than 3 ° ° ° ° C {5.4 ° ° ° ° F}, the PCM determines that there
is a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor characteristic.
Diagnostic support note
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or
DETECTION
CONDITION
in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive
cycle.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
• ECT sensor malfunction
