6.1.2 What You Need to Know

The following terms and concepts may help you as you read through this chapter.
HTTP
HyperText Transfer Protocol is commonly used on the Internet. HTTP is the
primary protocol used for web sites and web browsers. It is also prone to certain
kinds of attacks.
HTTPS
HyperText Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer, or HTTP over SSL is a web
protocol that encrypts and decrypts web pages. Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is an
application-level protocol that enables secure transactions of data by ensuring
confidentiality (an unauthorized party cannot read the transferred data),
authentication (one party can identify the other party) and data integrity (you
know if data has been changed).
TFTP
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is an Internet file transfer protocol similar to
FTP (File Transfer Protocol), but is scaled back in functionality to require fewer
resources to run. TFTP uses the UDP (User Datagram Protocol) rather than TCP
(Transmission Control Protocol).
