V310. The V310 is an IP phone that allows you to make phone calls over the Internet. Sending voice signals over the Internet is called Voice over IP (VoIP). VoIP allows you to call other IP phones, mobile phones or landlines all over the world.
ISG50, you can use the V310 to make and receive VoIP telephone calls through it. In this example, you make a call from your V310 (A in the figure), which sends it to the ISG50. The ISG50 forwards calls to PSTN phones (B) on the PSTN network. The ISG50 also forwards calls to IP phones (C) through an IP network (this could include the Internet).
The following figure shows a basic example of how you would make a peer-to-peer VoIP call. You make a call on your V310 (A), which sends your call through your modem or router (B) and the Internet to the peer VoIP device (C).
This chapter describes the V310’s physical features, and how to use the phone functions. 2.2 Physical Features This section discusses the V310’s front, side and base panel hardware features. See your Quick Start Guide for descriptions of how to set up the V310’s hardware and network connections.

HAPTER 15.1 Overview This chapter discusses how to set up an IPSec or PPTP VPN in the V310. A virtual private network (VPN) provides secure communications between sites without the expense of leased site-to-site lines. A secure VPN is a combination of tunneling, encryption, authentication, access control and auditing.
IP layer. The following figure is an example of an IPSec VPN tunnel. Figure 123 IPSec VPN Example The VPN tunnel connects the V310 and the remote (peer) IPSec router (X). The V310 then connects the local network (A) and the remote router connects the remote network (B).
Page 97
Chapter 15 VPN through which the V310 and remote IPSec router can send data between computers on the local network and remote network. This is illustrated in the following figure. Figure 124 VPN: IKE SA and IPSec SA In this example, a computer in network A is exchanging data with a computer in network B. Inside networks A and B, the data is transmitted the same way data is normally transmitted in the networks.
Chapter 15 VPN 15.2 IPSec VPN Use this screen to display and edit the IPSec VPN gateway policy in the V310. Click Configuration > VPN > IPSec VPN. Figure 125 IPSec VPN The following table describes the labels in this screen.

3DES - a 168-bit key with the DES encryption algorithm • AES128/192/256 - a 128/192/256-bit key with the AES encryption algorithm The V310 and the remote IPSec router must use the same algorithms and keys. Longer keys require more processing power, resulting in increased latency and decreased throughput.

V310 and the SIP register server, the V310 probably has a private IP address. The V310 lists its IP address in the SIP message that it sends to the SIP register server. NAT does not translate this IP address in the SIP message. The SIP register server gets the V310’s IP address from inside the SIP message and maps it to your SIP identity.
Page 107
This allows the V310 to work with any type of NAT router and eliminates the need for STUN or a SIP ALG. Turn off a SIP ALG on a NAT router in front of the V310 to keep it from retranslating the IP address (since this is already handled by the outbound proxy server).
