Startup Problems

If the OmniBook doesn't respond at turn-on
• Connect the ac adapter.
• Press the power button to try turning on the unit.
• Reset the OmniBook (see page 2-9).
If you get no response, then plug in the ac adapter and try resetting the
OmniBook. If you still get no response, the unit requires service.
If the OmniBook doesn't boot from battery power
• Connect the ac adapter, then check battery status (Start, Settings, Control Panel,
Power or double-click on the power icon in the taskbar). If the battery is low,
leave ac connected to recharge it.
• If you are using a battery slice, then the battery status should show two batteries
present (the first for the internal battery, the second for the slice). If the second
one is shown Not Present, make sure the slice is properly connected.
• If the battery status shows the first (or only) battery Not Present, then the battery
is probably defective and should be replaced.
If the OmniBook doesn't boot from the floppy disk drive
• Check if the floppy disk drive is enabled.
From the Start menu, shut down, then restart the OmniBook.
When you see the HP logo, press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup utility.
From the Main menu, check that Legacy Diskette A: is set to 1.44/1.25 MB.
• Check the boot order in the Setup utility.
From the Main menu, Boot Options, check that the boot sequence is A: then C:.
• Make sure that the floppy disk is bootable. (Try using it to boot from another
system.)
