Bearing race replacement steps:
D Remove the bearing races on the head pipe
using long rod 1 and the hammer as shown.
D Remove the bearing race on the under brack-
et using the floor chisel 2 and the hammer
as shown.
D Install the new dust seal and races.

NOTE:
D Always replace bearings and races as a set.
D Replace the dust seal whenever a steering
head disassembled.
CAUTION:
If the bearing race is fitted not squarely, the
head pipe could be damaged.

STEERING INSTALLATION

Reverse the "REMOVAL" procedure.
Note the following points.
1. Lubricate:
S Bearings (upper and lower)
S Bearing races
Recommended lubricant:
Lithium-soap base grease
2. Install:
S Ring nut (lower)
S Rubber washer
S Ring nut (center)
S Lock washer
S Ring nut (upper)
Refer to "STEERING HEAD INSPEC-
TION" section in CHAPTER 3.
3. Install:
S Woodruff key 1
S Handlebar lower bracket 2
139 Nm (13.9 mSkg)
NOTE:
Align the woodruff key to key groove mark a on
the handlebar lower holder.
