Note: If you have shutters connected, and are using an External Trigger, you must
ensure that the shutter is open before the optical signal you want to measure occurs.
Normally, when using External Trigger the system will only enable the
triggering of the system after a complete Keep Clean Cycle has been performed.
This is to ensure that the CCD is always in the same known state before it is
triggered. This is particularly important when the system is in Accumulation or
Kinetics mode. However, this process increases the minimum time between each
triggered event. In cases were repetition rate is important, and slight variation in
the base background level is less important, it is possible to remove this restriction
by using the Fast External Trigger option.
Note: If you have a shutter connected, and are using an External Trigger, you must
ensure that the shutter is open before the optical signal you want to measure occurs.
The following questions and answers will help you decide whether you should use
Internal or External Trigger Mode, External Start or Fast External
Trigger Mode.
Is the optical signal CW?
1.
If yes, select Internal Trigger Mode and make your acquisitions.
If no, go to 2.
2.
Are you using a pulsed source (e.g. a laser or a lamp) that can accept a
trigger?
If yes, select Internal Trigger Mode. Connect the FIRE output of the
Multi I/O Box to the trigger input of the pulsed source. Set the Exposure
Time / Shutter Time to encompass all of the optical pulse. Make your
acquisitions.
If no, go to 3.
Are you using a pulsed source (e.g. a laser or a lamp) that can send a trigger?
3.
If yes, select External Trigger Mode, or External Trigger Start.
Connect the trigger output of the pulsed source to the EXT TRIG input of the
camera. Set the Exposure Time to encompass all of the optical pulse.
Make your acquisitions.
