5.3.3.1 Setting ACE Image Enhancement

ACE 3.0, Bell & Howell's latest image enhancement capabilities, has been optimized for
scanning. For this reason, the ACE settings have been established to enable you to
generate the best images for your particular documents. The following table will assist
you in determining the settings that you should use. Remember that these settings must be
made from the scanner itself.
Sensitivity is a contrast (light and dark tones) setting that picks up shades of gray and
colors to provide the best possible document resolution. Sensitivity also pays attention to
the number of pixels per square inch (dots that make up pictures or images) to provide
fine resolution for drawings and photos. Sensitivity increases as the numbers increase. To
extract more detail from your documents, then, you would increase the sensitivity setting.
For low contrast documents, the sensitivity should be set to a high number. For high
contrast documents, the sensitivity should be set to a low number. The scanner retains its
parameters after being set.
Take the following steps to set all scanner parameters:
1. Power up the scanner.
2. Power up your host computer.
3. Power up the scanner application software running on the host computer according to
the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Set all scanner parameters by following the instructions provided by the manufacturer
of your application software.
