Replacing or adding a processor

Processors and heat sinks may be hot if
the computer has been running. Before
replacing a processor or heat sink, allow
them to cool for several minutes.
A heatsink must be installed on the
processor. Installing a processor without
a heatsink could damage the processor.

You must have a processor in the
Processor 1 socket, or your server will not

reconfigure your operating system so it
can recognize the additional processor.

If you install two processors onto the
system board, the processors must be the

The heat sink has Thermal Interface
Material (TIM) on the bottom. Be careful
not to damage this material when you
remove the heat sink from the processor.
If removing the heat sink also pulls the
processor out of the processor socket, the
processor could be damaged.

This server is compatible with as many as two Intel® Xeon™ 5100 series
