TCUV DETAILING PROCESS
PURPOSE: To identify paint condition and what restoration method will be the most efficient — yet least aggressive — to restore
finish to TCUV standards.
Paint Condition
Typical Problems
• Heavy oxidation
• Moderate-to-heavy scratches
and blemishes
• Surface contamination
(fallout and/or over-spray)
• Uneven paint luster
Step 1
• Clay painted surfaces using
mild, less-aggressive clay; more
aggressive clays may be used
only if needed
• Use appropriate surface lubricant
Step 2
• Compound painted surfaces using
mild compound
• Wool pad
• Variable speed buffer at 1,000 to
1,500 RPM
Step 3
• Polish painted surfaces using mildly
aggressive polish on a wool pad
• Foam pad to remove swirl marks
• Variable speed buffer at 1,400
to 2,000 RPM
STEP 4A: PAINT RESTORATION TIPS
Poor
• Light oxidation
• Dull paint luster
• Minor car wash scratches
and blemishes
• Light surface contamination
• Clay painted surfaces using
mild, less-aggressive clay
• Use appropriate surface lubricant
• Polish painted surfaces using mildly
aggressive polish on a wool pad
• Foam pad to remove swirl marks
• Variable speed buffer at 1,400 to
2,000 RPM
• Apply paste wax by hand or
orbital buffer
• Buff with towel to high luster

• Minor spider web-type scratches
• Somewhat dull paint luster
• Clay painted surfaces using mild,
less-aggressive clay
• Use appropriate surface lubricant
• Polish painted surfaces using
a non-aggressive polish or a
swirl remover
• Foam pad final finishing type
• Variable speed buffer at 1,400 to
2,000 RPM
• Apply paste wax by hand or
orbital buffer
• Buff with towel to high luster
