Night Recording (Super Cat's
Eye)
Available modes: TAPE-CAMERA, DUAL-
CAMERA, CARD-CAMERA
The night recording function allows you to
record the subject in absolute darkness. This is
useful when you want to record a subject at
night, e.g. a nocturnal animal, without artificial
lighting.
Note:
• Use Night Recording when "LIGHT" is displayed.
The picture turns white if you use it in a bright
location such as outdoors in the afternoon.
SUPER CAT'S EYE switch
IR LIGHT button
Infrared light transmitter
In TAPE-CAMERA, DUAL-CAMERA, or CARD-
CAMERA mode, set the SUPER CAT'S EYE
switch to ON.
• "SUPER CAT'S EYE" appears, and the picture
becomes brighter.

To obtain a brighter picture
With the SUPER CAT'S EYE switch set to ON,
press the IR LIGHT button.
• "SUPER CAT'S EYE" changes to "IR LIGHT 1",
and the camcorder emits infrared light from the
transmitter.
• The picture becomes monochrome.
• Each time you press the IR LIGHT button, the IR
light mode changes as shown below. Setting the
IR LIGHT number higher allows recording in
darker locations.
*Not available in CARD-CAMERA mode.
To cancel Night Recording
Set the SUPER CAT'S EYE switch to OFF.
Notes:
• The camcorder may not be able to focus
correctly when using Night Recording. In such
cases, use the manual focus function to obtain
proper focus (see pages 67 and 68).
• Infrared light emitted from the camcorder
illuminates up to a distance of about 3 m away

with "IR LIGHT 3".
• The camcorder automatically sets a slower
shutter speed when "IR LIGHT 2" or "IR LIGHT
3" is selected. This makes the images more
easily affected by hand movement, and also
causes graininess. Moving subjects will leave
trails behind them in the image.

• The manual settings of the manual functions
described on pages 59 to 66 cannot be used
while using Night Recording.
