RPPR (Realtime Pattern Play/
Recording) function
For details on the RPPR function, refer to "Playing with
the RPPR function" ( p.25). Here we will give an
example of how to make RPPR settings, and how to
playback and record.

RPPR settings

RPPR settings are made individually for each multi. To
use RPPR playback, check the 1.1: Play Multi page
"RPPR" check box. If this is checked, the RPPR func-
tion will be turned on, and playing the keyboard on a
connected MIDI instrument will cause patterns to play-
back according to the RPPR settings. If the "RPPR"
check box is not checked, the multi will play normally
even if RPPR settings have been made.
1 Specify multi settings such as program, pan, and
level for the track that will use RPPR. ( p.24)
The illustration in step 2 shows an example of
using the "Load Template Multi" utility to load P00:
Pop/Ballade.
2 Select the 5.1 RPPR, RPPR Setup page
In this page, the RPPR function will automatically
be on.
3 In "Control Track," select the track that will trigger
the RPPR patterns.
When note data is received on the MIDI channel of
the selected track, the specified pattern will play
back. Set this to match the MIDI channel of the
external MIDI device.
4 Use "KEY" to select the note number to which you
wish to assign a pattern.
You can also enter these values by holding down the
[ENTER] key and playing a note on a connected
MIDI instrument.

5 Check the "Assign" check box.
You can make assignments for keys C#2–C8. Keys
C2 and below are used for stopping the pattern
playback, and cannot be assigned.
6 Select the pattern that will playback when you
press the key selected in step 4.
Use "Pat (Pattern Bank)" to select the pattern type
(either Pre (Preset) or User), and use "Pattern
Select" to select the pattern.
A user pattern (User) selected here must have
already been recorded or copied in the 5.1: RPPR,
Pattern page.
7 Select the track that will play this pattern.
The pattern will play according to the program and
other settings of the track that you specified in
"Track."
If you wish to play a drum pattern, choose a track
for which a drum program is selected. If you wish to
play a bass pattern, select a track for which a bass
program is selected.
8 Set "M (Mode)," "Shift" and "Sync" to specify
how the pattern will play, and how it will synchro-
nize.
The method of stopping playback will depend on
the "M (Mode)" setting, but pressing the C2 or
lower key will stop all patterns.
For keys whose "Sync" setting is Beat or Measure,
the pattern playback will synchronize with the pat-
tern playback of the first key. For keys that are set to
ARP (SEQ), the pattern playback will synchronize
to the arpeggiator.
For details on these parameters and on how to stop
the playback, refer to PG p.64.
The assigned keys will be shown as a keyboard
graphic in the LCD screen.
9 When a key to which to a pattern is assigned is
played on a connected MIDI instrument, that pat-
tern will begin playing.
Play a key corresponding to the "KEY" note num-
ber, on the MIDI channel of the "Control Track" that
you selected in step 3.
Keys to which RPPR is not assigned can be used for
normal keyboard performance. If you wish to
change the track used for normal keyboard perfor-
mance, set the MIDI channel of your MIDI keyboard
