Customizing the XML transforms

The system administrator can customize the XML transforms as standalone
transforms or as transforms managed by InfoPrint Manager. If you have InfoPrint
Manager installed, we recommend you to use it to manage the XML transforms.
This section details the common, standalone, and InfoPrint Manager customization
tasks the administrator must perform before the job submitter can run the XML
transforms. The administrator performs the common customization tasks and
either the standalone or InfoPrint Manager customization tasks, depending on
whether the XML transforms are run as a standalone transform or managed by
InfoPrint Manager.
Common customization tasks
The common customization tasks you perform depend on whether you are using
the XML to AFP transform or the XML to PDF transform.
Tasks for using the XML to AFP transform:
The sample xml2afp configuration file is provided in install_path\xmltransform\
xml2afp.cfg on Windows. These items are set in the file and can be modified:
1. The default location of the AFP fonts.
2. The default paper size.
Additionally, defaults for all the xml2afp options can be set in the configuration
file.
The syntax of the configuration file is exactly the same as the command line syntax
with these additional rules:
1. Blank lines are ignored.
2. All data on a line after a pound sign is ignored. The pound sign might occur
anywhere on a line.
3. To include a pound sign in parameter data, it must be escaped; that is, it must
be preceded by a backwards slash.
4. White space before and after parameter data is removed.
5. Parameter data on successive lines is concatenated with a single space between
them.
6. Parameters might span lines as long as they follow rules 1 through 5.
Customizing the xml2afp.cfg file: You can either create a new configuration file or
modify the sample that is provided:
1. Create a new xml2afp configuration file, xml2afp.cfg, which lets you configure
the xmp2afp transform.
To create the file on Windows, copy the sample configuration file,
install_path\xmltransform\xml2afp.cfg, to a temporary location.
Note: To modify the sample configuration file, you still need to copy it.
2. Edit the file using your preferred editor, such as vi or notepad.
