Part 5 - Connecting Shared Storage and LAN Adapters

Connecting the Shared Storage

To cable the HP Rack Storage/8 cabinets to the LXr Pro NetServers:
1.
If not already done, shutdown Windows NT, and power down Systems A and B.
2.
If not already done, insert the hot swap disks into the HP Rack Storage/8 cabinets, but do not slide them
all the way in so that they are operational.
3.
For HP Rack Storage/8s to be used for shared storage, make sure that they are configured for single bus
operation. See Setting Up the HP Rack Storage/8 in Part 2 of this guide.
4.
Refer to the cabling diagrams in Appendix D and cable your cluster using the applicable diagram for
your cluster configuration (device complement).
NOTE
CAUTION

Connecting the LAN Adapters

To finish cabling the cluster you need to connect two sets of LANs used for communications. One set allows
the cluster to communicate node to node over what is typically called the Intra-cluster LAN. These LAN
adapters are located in slot P2 of each HP NetServer. The second set of LANs allows the cluster to
communicate with external clients over what is typically called the client LAN. These LAN adapters are
located in slot P1 of each HP NetServer.
To connect the cluster's LAN adapters:
1.
Using a crossover cable, connect PCI slot P2 of System A to PCI slot P2 of System B.
2.
Connect the Client LAN Ethernet cable to PCI slot P1 of each HP NetServer.
3.
Your cluster's major hardware components are now cabled and cluster ready. You are ready to begin the
process of cluster software installation and configuration.
4.
Go to Part 6 - Configuring the Disk Arrays.
NetRAID channels must not cross. Therefore, make sure you follow the diagram
carefully. Be sure to connect HP NetRAID channel 0 from both HP NetServers to the
same HP Rack Storage/8 cabinet. Likewise, make sure both HP NetRAID channel 1s are
connected to the other storage cabinet. It is a good idea to color-code the cable ends with
the ports they connect. In this way, when a cluster device is removed for maintenance or
repair, it can easily be reconnected without danger of crossing channels.
Due to the length of the NetRAID Adapter cables, the HP NetServer LXr Pros can not be
extended from the rack with the cables connected to the rear of the LXr Pro. To prevent
damage to the cables, LXr Pro, Rack Storage/8, or the rack, disconnect all cables from
the rear of the LXr Pro before extending it from the rack. Also make sure that you
extend the anti-tip bar at the bottom front of the rack before extending any devices.
