Install Windows NT
Install Windows NT 4.0 on the system's local storage (which is normally internal). The Windows NT 4.0 is a
standard install, but be sure you review the steps below prior to installing Windows NT to ensure the proper
options are selected.
1. Insert the first CD of the Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition into the CD-ROM drive and
reboot the server. At the prompt, press [F8], then press "N" to "Cancel upgrade and install a fresh copy
of Windows NT." Microsoft Windows NT begins installation on the server.
2. As you proceed through the installation, select the following options when prompted:
Accept the 7880 SCSI controller driver selection.
Choose NTFS file system protocol (not FAT). Install Windows NT on the unpartitioned space.
Enable networking and the drivers for TCP/IP and NetBIOS.
Other protocols may be selected in addition, but TCP/IP is required.
Identify the network adapter you have chosen for your client LAN.
HP recommends you run the LAN tests at this point.
At this point, the HP NetServer is running Microsoft Windows NT.
Configure the HP NetServer for Cluster Operations
1. At the Start menu, choose Settings|ControlPanel|Network|Adapters.
2. In the Adapters pane, check to see if the adapter prefixed with [2] is highlighted. If not, select this
adapter to highlight it and click Add.
You have now selected the LAN adapter for the Intra-cluster LAN.
3. Configure the Intra-cluster LAN adapter. Enter a unique IP address for the LAN adapter you just
identified.
The cluster will use this LAN adapter to communicate between servers.
4. From the Control Panel, choose Network, then Protocol.
5. Highlight the TCP/IP option and click the Properties panel.
6. From the listed adapters, select the adapter prefixed with [1].
This LAN Adapter will be used for cluster to client communications. For more information, consult the
Microsoft Cluster Server Administrator's Guide.
NOTE
Because your servers are not yet joined to the cluster, this is a good time to run all the
tests including the SCSI Device Tests. Disregard any cautionary notes that discourage
testing at this point.
Do NOT install the Microsoft Cluster Server Software (MSCS) at this time.
