Rack-Mounting the Cluster Hardware

At this point the cluster hardware is assembled and setup (including hardware enhancements to the HP
NetServer LXr Pros) and ready to be mounted in the rack. Supported cluster hardware configurations have a
specific number of devices and are cabled in a specific manner. Make sure you follow the documents specified
in this section.
To install the cluster hardware in the rack:
1. To assist you in mounting the various cluster devices in the rack, refer to the following:
HP Rack Assistant Rack Layouts
The rack layouts were created during the ordering process for the cluster. The rack layout depicts
the placement of rack mounted components and must be followed to ensure cable connections can
be made.
HP NetServer Rack Installation Roadmap found in the HP NetServer Rack Installation Kit.
The roadmap provides instructions for rack assembly, if not already done, and references documents
that will guide and assist you in installing rack mounted devices.
HP NetServer Rack Assembly and Cabling Reference Guide
Use this guide as a reference during assembly of the HP NetServer rack-optimized components and
to complete the cabling of an assembled rack. You will need the information in this guide as you
attach and route cables for the HP NetServer LXr Pro Series and the HP Rack Storage/8 units. This
document supplements the HP NetServer Rack Installation Road Map, and expands that Road
Map's STEP 9 in Chapter 3 (for cabling power) and Chapter 5 (for data cabling). This guide
provides instructions for cabling.
NOTE
Appendix D of this guide
This appendix provides specific cabling interconnection information that must be followed for SCSI
cabling between the servers and external shared storage units and for device operating power.
2. After all components have been secured in the racks, slide the hot swap disks into the HP Rack Storage/8
cabinets but do not engage them into the card cage connectors.
3. Your hardware is now assembled and ready to setup for cluster operation. Go to Part 3 – Configuring
the HP NetRAID Adapter.
Do not connect SCSI cables between the HP NetServer LXr Pros and HP Rack
Storage/8s at this time.
