Guidelines for Installing Hot-Plug SCSI Hard Drives

Follow these guidelines when adding SCSI hard drives:
A maximum of four 1-inch Ultra3 SCSI drives may be added in the media
module. Ultra320 hard drives will run at Ultra3 speeds unless you install an
optional Ultra320 Array Controller and the Twisted Pair Cable Array Bypass kit
included with the system.
NOTE: ProLiant DL760 servers that have been upgraded to ProLiant DL760 Generation
2 servers will run internal hard drives up to Ultra 3 speeds regardless of the capability of
the drive.
If only one SCSI hard drive is used, it should be installed in the lowest-numbered
bay. If several drives are installed, the system boot drive should be installed in
the lowest-numbered bay.
To maintain proper system cooling, blanking panels should be installed in unused
drive bays.
CAUTION: If a hard drive is removed, a blanking panel must be added for static
immunity and airflow integrity.
The server has one embedded Smart Array 5i Controller. The integrated controller is
hardwired through an Array Enabler board to the four SCSI hard drive bays and the
external SCSI connector that can be used for a tape backup unit.
