Capacity Expansion

The Compaq ProLiant 8500 server is shipped with the Array Configuration
Utility (ACU) on the SmartStart and Support Software CD. You would
normally start the utility as described in the following procedure. If, for any
reason, you can not start the utility as described here, the utility is available in
a variety of locations as described in a section titled "Alternate Sources of the
Array Configuration Utility" later in this chapter.
11. Power off if necessary, then power on the server.
12. Boot the SmartStart and Support Software CD.
13. Select the Array Configuration Utility program.
When you start the Array Configuration Utility, the software checks the
configuration of each controller and its drive arrays. If the arrays are
unconfigured or if the configuration is less than optimal, the configuration
wizard takes over to guide you through the configuration process.
Press the F1 key or the click the Help button to activate context-sensitive help
for each screen. A status bar at the bottom of the screen also provides
immediate help messages describing the current selection.
Capacity expansion involves adding storage capacity to an array that has
already been configured. If an existing array is nearly full of data, you can
expand the capacity without disturbing the existing data. The Smart
Array 322DC capacity expansion feature allows the addition of a new physical
drive(s) to the array.
When you run the Array Configuration Utility, the program checks the drive
hardware and configuration. If the Array Configuration Utility discovers a
physical drive that is not being used, the configuration wizard leads you
through the steps for adding the drive.
