USING PREFLASH TO REDUCE RED-EYE

Red-eye occurs when flash shots are taken of people in
inadequate ambient light. The light from the flash goes
straight into the subject's eyes and bounces back into
the lens. The red colour is caused by the pigmentation
in the back of the eye. (Ex. 16 – 17)
1. Press the button for the extended flash modes until
RED EYE
is indicated in the LCD panel.
2. The preflash makes the pupils contract so that "red-
eye" is reduced or avoided altogether.

Notes:
• When you're taking a group shot, warn people that a
preflash will be fired so they don't start to move about
after the preflash.
• Keep the camera steady until the main flash is fired
so your framing will not change.
• If people still come out with red eyes in your enlarge-
ments, try retouching the photograph with a suitable
black felt pen.
