The configurable, informative measuring unit can be changed
or hidden. From software version 2.1.9, the selection of this
additional, informative measuring unit is stored in a PIN-
protected area.
The PIN upon delivery is: 7 0 0 0. During initial sign in, the
device prompts the user to assign a new PIN.
The blood breath ratio is the ratio of alcohol in venous blood
compared to the end-expiratory breath. Most countries have
defined a ratio of 2100:1, which is stored as the basic setting
in the device. The ratio can be adjusted by DrägerService if
necessary.
The blood breath ratio states that blood contains 2100 times
the amount of alcohol as breathing air or that 1 mL of blood
contains the same amount of alcohol as 2100 milliliters of
breathing air (2.1 liters of breathing air).
The blood breath ratio is the basis for the conversion between
the blood alcohol and breath alcohol concentration.
Depending on the measuring units into which the value is to
be converted, the various conversion factors derive from this
set blood breath ratio.

Functional test/quality assurance

The functional test is carried out by automatically testing the
ambient air every time the device is started up. Dräger
recommends that you carry out an additional functional test
using ethanol once a week for quality assurance purposes.
Quality testing must be carried out in accordance with Section
9 MPBetreibV (German Medical Devices Operator
Ordinance).

Carry out a functional test as follows:
1. Prepare a bottle with a solution containing approximately
1 g ethanol per 1 liter water or a roughly 1 % ethanol
flushing solution (see "Order list", page 24).
2. Remove the mouthpiece from the device.
3. Press the
button to access the context menu.
4. Select the function test with the
confirm with the
button (see fold-out page Figure B: 3).
5. Place the plastic piece of the mouthpiece receptacle of the
device that is ready for measurement without a
mouthpiece on the opening of the bottle. Alternatively, add
a few drops of the solution to an absorbent paper towel
and hold the device over it — again, do not attach a
mouthpiece.
6. Briefly press the
button. The device performs a
measurement and displays the result.
Reading the results
If ALCOHOL appears on the display and the red LED
illuminates:
● The sensitivity of the device to alcohol has been
confirmed. The functional test with ethanol was
successful.
Briefly press the
button.
The device returns to the context menu.
 The device is ready for use.
If NO ALC. appears on the display and the green LED
illuminates:
● Repeat the functional test.
If NO ALC. appears on the display again:
● Have the device adjusted by specialists, e.g.
DrägerService.
4.8

Turning off the device

● Hold down the
button for about 3 seconds.
The device will switch off automatically approx. 4 minutes
after the last use.
4.9

Removing the mouthpiece

● Push the mouthpiece on the mounting spacer out of the
mouthpiece receptacle in an upward motion and dispose
of it (see fold-out page, Figure A).
