6. Blow evenly and without interruption into the mouthpiece.
 A circular progress bar indicating progress as a
percentage value is displayed (see fold-out page,
Figure B: 2).
4.5.1.1 Reading the result
The device detects exhaled samples with a volume greater
than 0.3 L. The subject must be able to exhale at least this
volume. If the volume of the exhaled sample is greater than
0.3 L and less than 1.3 L, the message "Low volume" appears
on the display in addition to the measurement result. The
displayed breath alcohol result only corresponds to the blood
alcohol concentration for samples with a volume greater than
1.3 L. All breath alcohol tests with the "Low volume" message
present may display a lower result than the actual blood
alcohol concentration.
The pre-configured alcohol threshold values determine
when the green, yellow or red LED illuminates.
In this measuring mode, the measured value is displayed in
mg/L and an additional configurable, informative unit (e.g., ‰)
(see "Setting the measuring unit", page 21). The test number
is also indicated.
The following results are possible:
● No alcohol detected (see the fold-out page, Figure B: 4).
In addition, the green LED lights up. Press the
to continue with the next measurement.
Or
● Alcohol detected (see the fold-out page, Figure B: 5). In
addition, the red LED lights up. Press the
continue with the next measurement.
Once the recovery time of the sensor (see "Technical data",
page 23) has elapsed, the display indicates that the device is
ready for measurement.
4.5.2 Low-volume breath sample
If a very low volume of breath is provided, the analyzed
breathing air is a mixture of lung air and air from the upper
respiratory tract. The measured concentration will therefore
be lower than the blood alcohol concentration.
The displayed measured value does not have to match the
actual blood alcohol concentration.
This measurement mode is permanently active.
During a measurement, the device checks whether the
required minimum volume has been provided and takes a
breath sample.
If the subject cannot provide the required minimum volume of
breath, a low-volume sample will be taken. This means that
the device can display a result even if the subject has not
blown enough.
1. Prepare the device as you would for an automatic
measurement (see "Taking an automatic breath sample",
page 18).
4.5.2.1 Reading the result
In this measuring mode, the measured value is displayed in
mg/L and an additional configurable, informative unit (e.g., ‰)
(see "Setting the measuring unit", page 21). A notice is also
displayed. The Low volume notice indicates that the breath
sample was taken in this measurement mode.

4.5.3 Taking a passive breath sample
False-positive results
Alcohol residues that are still present, for example from a
disinfection, may distort the result.
When measuring without a mouthpiece the breathing air
may also mix with the ambient air, as a result of which the
breathing air will be diluted and therefore the measured
concentration will be less than the concentration in the
breathing air.
In the case of the passive breath sample, sampling is
manually activated by the user of the device. This means that
use is possible even with subjects who are not very
cooperative, are not able to blow into the mouthpiece when
asked or are not able to provide a sufficient breath sample.
To take a passive breath sample:
1. Hold the ready device without the mouthpiece in the air to
be analyzed.
2. To trigger the measurement, briefly press the
do not hold it down.
3. Wait until the analysis is completed.
4.5.3.1 Reading the result
In this measuring mode, the result is displayed in text form
(ALCOHOL, NO ALCOHOL), as a measured value mg/L and
an additional configurable, informative unit (e.g., ‰). The
device is delivered from the factory displaying the two units. In
this status, the PASSIVE notice cannot be displayed. But the
breath sample was still carried out in passive measuring
mode. If the additional informative unit is disabled, the notice
is displayed (see "Setting the measuring unit", page 21).
The following results are possible:
● No alcohol detected (see the fold-out page, Figure B: 8).
The NO ALC. display appears. In addition, the green LED
lights up. Press the
measurement.
Or
● Alcohol detected (see the fold-out page, Figure B: 9). The
ALCOHOL display appears. In addition, the red LED lights
up. Press the
button to continue with the next
measurement.

Measuring units

The display of the measured value in the mg/L (milligram per
liter) unit for the breath alcohol concentration is required by
the MDR (Medical Device Regulation).
The Dräger Alcotest 7000 med also shows the measurement
result in a configurable, informative measuring unit.
In the as-delivered state, the device is set to display the
following information: milligram per liter (mg/L) and per mill
(‰) (see fold-out page B: 4).
