Prerequisites for use

CAUTION
Risk of swallowing
Do not distort the mouthpiece in the mouth.
► The user must observe the subject during use.
The device is adjusted in the factory before delivery. Dräger
recommends that the device be adjusted every 12 months by
DrägerService.
● The ambient air must be free of alcohol and solvent
vapors (disinfectants).
● At least 15 minutes must have elapsed since the subject
last consumed alcohol.
● The wait time cannot be reduced by rinsing your mouth
with water or with non-alcoholic beverages.
● Residual mouth alcohol or flavored drinks (e.g. fruit juice),
breath sprays containing alcohol, medicinal juices and
drops can distort the result. Observe a wait time of at least
15 minutes in these cases as well.
● Belching and vomiting can distort the result.
● The device detects exhaled samples with a volume
greater than 0.3 L. The subject must be able to exhale at
least this volume. If the volume of the exhaled sample is
greater than 0.3 L and less than 1.3 L, the message "Low
volume" appears on the display in addition to the
measurement result.
The displayed breath alcohol result only corresponds to
the blood alcohol concentration for samples with a volume
greater than 1.3 L. All breath alcohol tests with the "Low
volume" message present may display a lower result than
the actual blood alcohol concentration.
● For emergency use or other critical measurements,
always have a second functioning device or an alternative
means of measurement available.
● The seal sticker over the name plate on the reverse of the
device must not be damaged.

 An air blank is carried out.
An air blank is a test to see whether alcohol can be
detected in the ambient air, which could distort test
results.
3. If no alcohol is detected, wait until the device displays that
it is ready to measure (see fold-out page, Figure B: 1).

4.5.1 Taking an automatic breath sample
Use a new mouthpiece for each measurement.
Do not allow any high alcohol concentrations on the sensor,
e.g., by purging the mouth with a high proof alcohol shortly
before the measurement. Doing so shortens the life span of
the sensor.
When removing the mouthpiece (see "Order list", page 24)
from the packaging, ensure that the part that goes into the
mouth remains in the packaging. The mouth contact area
must remain protected for hygiene reasons.
The mouthpiece can be inserted into the mouthpiece
receptacle from both sides (right or left).
