Chapter Four
Software for DOS
You might need to low-level format your media. You can get a removable media
format utility from Adaptec Technical Support.
USING AFDISK
Before you can use your SCSI disks, they must be partitioned (and high-level
formatted). You can use the Adaptec disk partitioning utility AFDISK to partition
your SCSI disks if the SCSI disk is not installed by the host adapter BIOS at a
drive ID other than 1 or 0. In this case you can also install ASPI2DOS and
ASPIDISK. You can use the DOS partitioning utility FDISK to partition your SCSI
drives if your drive ID is 1or0.
I
After you partition your disks (regardless of which utility you use) you must
format them using a utility such as DOS FORMAT. However, it is not required .
..
Before Using AFDISK
Before you use AFDISK, make sure that you have copied all its files into the same
directory on the hard disk. The files and their functions are listed below:
File
PROCHLP.HLP
SYS$ERR.DTA
SYS$HELP.DTA
SYS$MSG.DTA
AFDISK.EXE
Function
AFDISK Help file
AFDISK error message file
AFDISK help message file
AFDISK system disk file
SCSI disk partitioning utility
General Information About AFDISK
If you originally partitioned a disk with FDISK while running DOS 3.21 or later,
you do not have to repartition the disk if you subsequently place it under the
control of ASPIDISK.
AFDISK partition size limitations are the same as DOS limitations. If you use
DOS 3.3, the maximum partition size is 32 megabytes. If you use DOS 4.0 or later
(or 3.21), the maximum partition size is one gigabyte.
